15 Feb W1nterr3 – Chat Box Interview
W1nterr3 is an artist from the UK that doesn’t fit into any one box. His music ranges in genres from Hip-Hop to Punk so there’s something for everyone. Expect lots of new music from W1nterr3 this year.
You alright bro?
Yo how’s it going?
Going good going good.
Shall we get into it?
Yeh im ready.
Sound. Okay, let’s take things back to the beginning. What first drew you to making music?
Heavy listening to Juice Wrld, The Kid Laroi, Lil Uzi like all them type of artists. And I was like, this looks fun. I wanna try this in some type of way. So I just started experimenting and its all sorta worked out in the end.
Yeh bro it’s definitely been working out so far. So they’re all fairly recent artists. Was it not much of a thought when you was much younger like growing up?
It was definitely a thought. I started writing lyrics and making beats when I was ten, I’d just left year six.
Thats crazy
Yeh, I was heavily into music. My dad tried to get me into it so much I was like okay I’ll try something. But I was just rapping then. It was very London then, limited to a certain area of people that would listen to it so I moved to uni and I was like let me branch out a bit.
For sure, because now I’d say really, your music doesn’t fit into one genre, you can see bits taken from pop, rap rock even, and a bit of punk! So do you think it’s better to have more of a varied sound or would you want to be nailed down to one genre?
I think as an artist limiting yourself to one genre is like limiting the amount of exposure you can give yourself at the same time. Me working in all these other genres is the reason I’ve done as well as I have up to now. Before the punk songs I dropped were completely spontaneous I just dropped them on insta because I was like you know what I’m releasing this because I like it and then everyone seemed to like that more than the other stuff. I was like okay, a new audience. It works out good in both ways. For exposure and I mean like you don’t wanna limit yourself to one thing anyway.
Yeh for sure! And it just elevates your sound if you take inspiration from a range of different places.
Yeh na i hear that.
So three albums last year! The latest “maybe in another life” (M.I.A.L). That’s a lot of music. What’s your process like when you’re creating these projects and the individual songs?
To be fair the process for M.A.I.L I recorded bad habits about six months ago and I decided I want an album now. But all the songs I put out there I was listening to them through and just skipping every single one. So i was like i need to take some time to actually build this album but the thought process there was im kinda known for the quantity side of my music and not the quality. So I was like I’m going to be dropping at least nineteen songs through the year so I may as well make them part of the album. So I decided to make songs based on a certain part in my life that relates back to maybe in another life. Every single song in one way relates back to that name. But my past albums. No inspiration at all. I just released them because… music.
Because you had the songs already built up and then you just put them all together?
Yeh.
I get you I get you. For M.I.A.L obviously, a lot of thought went into it. Is there like a feeling or a story that you want your listeners to take away or is it just more of a personal project for yourself that people might be able to relate to?
I guess you could look at it in both ways. Because a lot of the songs are talking about how I kept people around me that maybe weren’t the best but I’m only realising that now. Like, you can definitely take away stuff from each of the songs i put out on the album but a lot of the experiences I was talking about are personal yeh.
I guess people can relate in their own ways too. So you’ve dropped, ep’s, albums, music videos and you’ve got a couple live shows under your belt. What do you think the next sort of milestone for you as an artist is?
The next milestone. Honestly, I think the milestone, like I’ve already got it written down in my notes is that I wanna hit one million streams this year. Yeh I want this year to be the year I hit one million streams on either a song or in total but that’s a goal I’ve set myself from now. That’s the current goal.
I think that’s definitely achievable with the amount of music you’re putting out. It’s only a matter of time before one of them goes crazy, I mean bad habits has done really well already.
Yeh that’s kinda the song I’d wanna hit one million. Especially with Jack. like the connection with Jack David because he’s so similar like he doesn’t just do one genre it just makes him so easy to work with I kinda want that song to be the one that does well.
I mean it’s already done well and everything that came with it.
And me and Mixy (Mixy Juice) are working on something for when that hits one thousand views as well. (The Bad Habits music video)
That would be crazy! He’s hella talented as well.
Very talented
There’s lots of really talented artists now out here that haven’t quite got the exposure they deserve yet. Is there anyone else on your radar that you want to work with?
In Falmouth or in general?
Anyone!
There’s this artist that honestly I didn’t think they were very well known until recently when they dropped a lyrical lemonade video.
Yeh I’ve seen that. Nova Jordan right?
Yeh I’ve been locked onto Novas music for a while now. Like Nova Jordan is someone that I really want a song with.
That would go crazy.
We will wait and see. Just keep working for it.
Yeh man definitely. One last thing. What’s next? What do you have planned for early this year or just throughout the year?
So me and Jack David have something big coming. I’ve got something big with a producer I know called Spuddy. Hes recently started making waves in the UK and there’s a couple music videos I want to get…
–
…But yea I’m just working all year. I’m not stopping, I’m not stopping this year.
Awesome bro, well are there any messages you wanna wrap this up with?
100%. For anyone that does see this, this is going to sound corny and you’ve probably heard it a lot of times but don’t give up on what you’re striving to do. Like a few years ago if you told me I would even have a thousand streams on Spotify I would have laughed in your face and I’ve been doing music for nine years. At least a little bit of what you want to achieve is possible and if you work hard enough you can achieve whatever you want full stop.
Stream M.A.I.L!!
